PERFECT BINDING
Conventionally used for paperback books, Perfect Binding involves gluing multiple pages directly to a heavier-weight cover. The pages are glued at the spine with a strong, hot glue, providing a durable binding that’s ideal for books, user manuals, guides, and catalogs from 40 up to 1,000 pages. Once bound, the remaining three sides are face-trimmed for clean, even edges.
SADDLE-STITCH BINDING
In Saddle-Stitch Binding, multiple printed pages are collated and nested together, folded in half and draped over the “saddle,” and then stapled securely down the center. The edges are then neatly trimmed. Saddle-stitch binding is an effective and economical choice for booklets, magazines and catalogs up to 64 total pages. Note that pages must be in multiples of 4.
WIRE-O BINDING
Wire-O Binding uses pre-formed double metal wire loops that run along the spine and are inserted through small holes punched along the edge of the cover and pages. Wire-O binding has a smooth, formal, and professional feel; all pages line up precisely and lay flat when open. It is often used for annual reports, customer presentations, and field guides. Wire-O coils are available in different colors and sizes to accommodate projects up to 400 pages.
SPIRAL BINDING
Spiral Binding uses plastic spiral coils that are inserted into holes punched along one edge of the cover and pages. The spiral coils are available in a wide variety of colors and sizes to accommodate projects up to 2¾ inches thick (generally about 350 pages). Spiral-bound books are easy to handle, lie flat when open, and are very durable for frequent use. This is an excellent choice for reports, cookbooks, handbooks, workbooks, and calendars.
DIE CUTTING
Think outside the rectangle! At MEDIUS, we can make your print materials stand out with custom die-cut shapes. We have a library of standard dies and can also create custom dies with precision steel blades that cut, score and perforate your project in distinctive shapes with crisp, clean edges. Die cutting can be the difference maker for your custom printed boxes, counter cards, shelf cartons, presentation folders, packaging, and more.
EMBOSS & DEBOSS
Add a touch of elegance to your projects with embossed (raised) or debossed (recessed) images. Paper stock is pressed between heated metal female and male dies to create the effect. This lends a formal or distinctive touch to official government or university documents, certificates, presentation covers, folders, and product packaging.
SPOT UV COATING
To provide extra shine and color protection, we can apply Spot UV Coating. This process uses UV light to cure a light varnish placed on selected areas of the printed material. It adds a clear, classy sheen that is durable and smudge-resistant for high-impact presentation folders, book covers, and direct mailers. If you’re unsure how to incorporate Spot UV into your designs, our MEDIUS Customer Service team can provide helpful guidance.
LAMINATION
Lamination involves permanently bonding a clear plastic film onto printed matter, usually on both sides. This process offers protection and also provides strength and rigidity. It is often used for printed materials such as menus, maps, flip books, signage, tradeshow graphics, posters, and other materials that are handled frequently or exposed to dirty or damp environments. At MEDIUS we offer matte, silk, soft touch, and gloss lamination options for projects of nearly any size.
